Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has called on traditional institutions across the state to remain steadfast as custodians of peace, unity, and social harmony for the overall development of their communities. The governor made the appeal during the traditional shaving ceremony of the 14th Arɗon Sanyinna, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Sanyinna, held at the District Head’s Palace in Sanyinna.
Represented by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, Governor Ahmed Aliyu described traditional rulers as critical partners in governance and community development. He said their roles in promoting peaceful coexistence, mediating disputes, and preserving cultural values remain indispensable to the progress of society. The governor further noted that, meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and stability. He therefore urged traditional leaders to continue working closely with government at all levels to address emerging social challenges and promote initiatives that would improve the welfare of their subjects.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the District Head of Dogon Daji, Alhaji Abubakar Umar congratulated the people of Sanyinna for witnessing what he described as a historic event in the annals of the district. He commended the people for the unity and support they have continued to demonstrate towards their traditional institution, urging them to sustain the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. The Sultan also encouraged residents to remain law-abiding and supportive of efforts aimed at fostering peace, development, and prosperity in the area.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion and Director of Finance, Sokoto State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ƙasimu Muhammad Dogon Daji, called on residents to desilt major waterways and drainage channels in their communities to avert possible flooding during the rainy season. Represented by the Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal, Ƙasimu Muhammad Dogon Daji explained that government would continue to work harmoniously with traditional rulers in order to enhance grassroots development and strengthen the existing relationship between government and traditional institutions.
The historic event attracted a large gathering of dignitaries, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and well-wishers from within and outside Sokoto State, who came to celebrate the successful installation of the 14th Ardon Sanyinna, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Sanyinna.
